You may have heard that we recently added English Language Arts to our Continuous Diagnostic, giving students the power to pinpoint their current learning levels in four key strands: Reading Strategies, Vocabulary, Writing Strategies, and Grammar & Mechanics.
This new tool can help students in countless ways – like choosing which books to read this summer!
If you haven’t already, head to the Continuous Diagnostic and spend some time diagnosing to find your current overall reading level.

Bonus fact for high schoolers: our language arts awards reveal books that also make for great summer reading! As you reveal a new award, take a look at the summary for that book and see if it appeals to you.
If you’re having trouble choosing a book, it’s always a good idea to visit your local library and ask the librarian for recommendations – you can even ask them for books based on your current diagnostic level. (Hint: the first number in your diagnostic level is the grade you’re ready for! For example, a level of 400 indicates readiness for reading at the 4th grade level.)
And remember, your current diagnostic levels will change as you learn and grow. You can always step into the Diagnostic arena to keep your levels up to date, and the skills you practice on IXL will factor in, too. After you read a new book, be sure to spend some time with the Continuous Diagnostic to see how you’ve grown!
