In case you missed it: Soon, PSAT and SAT test takers in the U.S. can say goodbye to pencil and paper.

This fall, the PSAT will be administered online, and beginning 2024, the SAT will switch to a fully digital format. The new online exam also brings minor changes to exam length and question format.

But rest assured: IXL already has everything you need to help learners prepare for the new test format. Our digital learning platform gets students comfortable with answering questions online, taking assessments digitally, and more. Let’s take a look at how IXL can help your learner excel on the digital SAT!

Adaptive exam questions

With the all-new digital format, the SAT will be adaptive to each test taker. Students’ performance in Module 1 of the exam will be used to generate the questions they see in Module 2 of the exam.

Similarly, IXL’s Real-Time Diagnostic adapts to each learner to deliver an individualized assessment. As students answer questions, the IXL Diagnostic chooses the next best question to ask, honing in on their knowledge levels.

At any time, students can access the IXL Diagnostic by visiting the Assessment tab to practice taking exams online.

Complex topics and questions

IXL’s comprehensive high school curriculum gives students in-depth exposure to a variety of question types, similar to those they’ll encounter on the SAT. For example, in addition to multiple choice questions, the digital SAT will now have fill-in questions for math.

The following side-by-side comparisons of IXL skills and SAT questions show how IXL can help students practice answering similar math and ELA questions online:

Fill-in math question

IXL Math skill: Solve one-step linear equations

IXL ELA skill: Transitions with conjunctive adverbs

SAT Reading & Writing practice test

Plus, IXL’s scaffolded skills ease students into higher difficulty levels, preparing them for the rigorous nature of college entrance exams. If students submit a wrong answer on IXL, they always receive immediate feedback to learn from mistakes and build a stronger understanding of the material!

Personalized SAT study guides

IXL’s SAT study plan allows learners to enter their scores from a prior test or practice exam and receive a personalized list of the exact IXL skills they need to work on to improve scores. They can enter new scores at any time to ensure that their targeted skills are always relevant.

In accordance with the new SAT format, IXL’s SAT study plans will also reflect the new sections and question types.

With tailored test prep at their fingertips, students can make bigger, faster strides in the right direction!
