IXL now has a new feature that lets teachers and administrators see even more student information. Introducing courses, a way to create and manage groups of students across grades, schools, and class periods directly in IXL.
Courses are a great tool for organization, and so much more. Teachers can use courses to filter their IXL Analytics reports, gaining more insights to analyze performance for their students! Course data is particularly useful for middle school and high school, where teachers often instruct multiple classes at a few different levels.
Read on and we’ll show you how to use courses to group students and surface actionable insights.
What are courses?
Courses are groups of students in IXL who are working on the same material. If a teacher has students across different classes and grades taking the same course, such as Algebra 1, they can group all of those students into an Algebra 1 course to track data for them together.
Courses are not restricted to particular schools, so administrators can create courses that span multiple schools in their district.

How to manage courses
Courses that are specified in auto-roster integrations (such as Clever or OneRoster) are automatically reflected in IXL.
Additionally, courses can be managed using the new Courses page under the Roster tab in Account management. Here, lead administrators and teachers on classroom licenses can view, create, and edit courses. Or, on the Upload Roster page, lead administrators and teachers on classroom licenses can upload spreadsheets that contain all the courses they wish to add to IXL.

Teachers on school or district licenses can use the Roster page to link the classes they teach with courses created by their administrators.

Filtering IXL Teacher Analytics by courses
Teachers can use courses to filter any of their reports in IXL Analytics! By opening the Students filter menu near the top of a report, teachers will see any courses that are associated with their classes. After selecting a course, teachers will only see data in the report for students who are in classes that are associated with that course.

Courses give educators another level of control over their rosters in IXL. For teachers who teach multiple class periods of the same course, course filtering is especially helpful to see whether their students are performing above or below their expected level.
