IXL Leaderboards are a favorite motivation tool for students and educators alike. So we’re making leaderboards even bigger and better by adding school-versus-school tournaments! Now, primary and lead administrators for district accounts can now create a new type of learning competition between schools in their district.
Here’s how they work:
- Easily set up a district-wide leaderboard
- View results grouped by schools
- Take the competition to the next level
Easily set up a district-wide leaderboard
To start, navigate over to the “Leaderboards” section of the “My IXL” tab. At the top you’ll see a drop-down menu with the option to “Compete between schools.”
Then, select which schools you’d like to participate in the competition, and which grades or courses you’d like to include. This makes it easy to start a district-wide Kindergarten competition, a high-school versus high-school tournament, and more!
After you’ve chosen the participants, you can select the criteria that count towards a win and the time frame for the competition.

View results grouped by schools
Once the competition has started, the results will look a little different than leaderboards in the past. District-wide leaderboards will show progress metrics grouped by the schools that are participating. Teachers and students will see what their school’s rank is and the average progress for each student.

Take the competition to the next level
The possibilities for district-wide leaderboards are endless! This new type of competition is the perfect way for you to energize an entire grade level or pump up students in a course before their big test.
Here are a few fun ideas to help you turn up the competition in your district:
- Course-wide competitions: Engage all the students enrolled in a specific course in an exciting battle of wits! For example, see which school’s Algebra 1 students can answer the most questions.
- Grade-level showdowns: Foster healthy competition between grade levels by having students from the same grade compete against each other.
- Month-long matches: Spark excitement through a month-long competition between schools. Turn up the fun even more with prizes for the winning school!
- Mastery marathon: Easily track and compare each school’s average progress towards skill mastery.
- School break sprint: Keep kids motivated over the break by promising a prize to the school that practices the most over a school break!
Start creating district-wide leaderboards and see your school’s progress come to life!
