Each Reading Screener takes approximately 20 minutes to complete, and has a time limit of 30 minutes, making it easy to fit into a single class period.
Two targeted tests
Administrators can leverage two distinct reading screeners to meet the appropriate assessment goal. Each screener is specifically designed for its purpose, and supports educators in early identification of areas of potential concern.
- Reading Foundations (Grades K-3): The Foundations Screener evaluates whether students are able to read. It also flags students who may be at risk for dyslexia based on their scores, so that they may be evaluated further by a specialist.
- Reading Comprehension (Grades 3-8): This Screener assesses whether upper elementary and middle school students are able to understand what they read.
Immediate, detailed results
As soon as students complete their screener, the Universal Screener Results report reveals important insights into your students’ reading skills. Quickly see how many students across your school or district are performing at or above grade level, below grade level, or far below grade level.
Each report also shows detailed data for each student, including their overall reading level, strand levels, and for the Reading Foundations screener, if they are at risk of dyslexia.
With advanced grouping and filtering options, you can compare results across multiple categories, such as grade levels, teachers, and demographics, to better inform decision-making and allocate resources where they’re needed most.
Comprehensive K-8 screening
Together, the IXL Universal Math Screener and the IXL Universal Reading Screeners form a complete screening solution for K-8 math and ELA.
